Our Mission and Goals
To build a long term community of mutual support between the land, the farmers, the members of the CSA, and the wider community.

To foster resilience and food security in our local community by developing and sharing food production infrastructure and knowledge.

To produce the finest food possible for our farm members, while caring for the land in a way that goes beyond our organic certification.

To research and develop techniques of producing food that reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

To offer practical, theoretical, and policy-oriented educational programming and internships to the public, pre-school through scientist, focused on small scale ecological agriculture, sustainability and healthy living.

To build community by sharing healthy, productive work and delicious food.

Community Supported Agriculture

Shares/memberships are sold before the season begins, allowing the farmers to purchase seeds and supplies critical to a successful growing season, without the burden of debt faced by many farmers. This also allows them to focus on growing food in the healthiest way possible, rather than on marketing, during the growing season. By paying for a membership instead of paying for food, you become an investor in farmland preservation, local self reliance, and food security.

Gain an authentic connection to people and the earth.
We owe it to future generations to start now.

We are Maryland Department of Agriculture Certified Organic and have been since 1997

We distribute the produce directly from the farm which is at 8000 Harriet Tubman Lane in Columbia Md 21044. We grow everything at Shaw Farm (we don’t buy anything from other farms).  We are certified organic, and have been since 1997.  We pick nearly all the produce on the day you pick it up and wash and refrigerate it immediately.  We then put it into coolers for you to pick up.  We believe that you can’t get better than our produce.  We are a small farm that only does a *60 member CSA*, which means you get the highest quality and you don’t have to worry that we’re selling some of the produce somewhere else.  As a small CSA we can do many things with human power on a human scale, instead of using our tractors for every task and burning fossil fuels.  We choose to be a small CSA in order to focus on quality and improving the soil over time, and to be able to personally get to know our members.  We encourage, but don’t require our members to get involved in other ways that build community and support the creation of a more sustainable food system.
